Celebration of the 3rd European Green Infrastructure Day on April 27, 2023
We are glad to report that on April 27, the EU Chapter of the World Green Infrastructure Network (WGIN) celebrated the 3rd European Green Infrastructure Day together with numerous EU policymakers, green roof industry leaders, experts and NGOs. According to the aim of exploring opportunities and strategies to transform European cities from grey to green living spaces, the WGIN offered a multifaceted, freely available online agenda with many speakers from many countries who shared their expert knowledge of the field with the audience.
The annual policy conference was opened with the first session about technical conditions for green, efficient and solar-powered building stocks, while the second stage was set for greening and restoration measures to foster biodiversity in Europe. It was followed by a third session about concepts for permeable cities which foster better water management as well as urban resilience and climate adaptation. The last session of the conference was dedicated to innovative ideas on how to green European cities and make them more inclusive and livable.

Dusty Gedge, the President of the European Federation of Green Roof and Living Wall Associations (EFB) shared his experience in Session I – Green, efficient and solar-powered: key features of a sustainable building stock.
Within this framework, there were sparked many inspiring discussions about the actual state of the art of European planning standards concerning urban green roofs and walls. The manifold exchange of concepts, knowledge and perspectives from different actors finally brought many insights into how EU policies can support their uptake across Europe and how to tap into the multiple benefits of green infrastructure for Europe’s climate and energy transition.
