EFB Welcomes Embuild Plus Gevel- en Dakgroen as a New Extraordinary Member from Belgium

The European Federation of Green Roof and Living Wall Associations (EFB) is delighted to welcome Embuild Plus Gevel- en Dakgroen as our newest Extraordinary Member, further strengthening the European network working to advance green roofs, living walls, and nature-based solutions across the continent.

Embuild Plus Gevel- en Dakgroen is the Belgian Professional Association for Green Facades and Roofs. The association brings together companies and professionals committed to promoting green roofs and living walls as sustainable, multifunctional solutions for creating healthier, more resilient, and climate-adapted cities. With urban space becoming increasingly limited, the organisation advocates for integrating vegetation into the built environment as an essential element of future urban development.

The association joins the EFB alongside our Ordinary Member from Belgium, the Belgische Federatie Groenblauw Bouwen (BFDG). Together, the two organisations will work closely with one another and with the EFB to strengthen the Belgian green roof and living wall sector, exchange expertise, and contribute to the development of high-quality standards and best practices across Europe.

Promoting Green Infrastructure Across Belgium

The association’s primary mission is to increase awareness of the environmental, social, and economic benefits of green roofs and green facades while encouraging their wider implementation throughout Belgium. Through collaboration with industry stakeholders, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners, Embuild Plus Gevel- en Dakgroen aims to improve the quality and visibility of green infrastructure and contribute to more liveable cities and communities.

Supporting the Sector Through Practical Initiatives

To achieve its mission, the association has developed a range of practical initiatives that support both professionals and the wider market. These include:

  • A quality label.
  • Partnerships with other actors within the sector (TETRA project Wonderwalls / Green Roofs Up!)
  • Training courses.
  • Technical working groups:
    • Green Roof Charter
    • Green Facade Charter, covering substrates, vegetation, and drainage systems.
  • Industry events, such as the Belgian Roof Day, which bring together professionals, researchers, and stakeholders to exchange knowledge and showcase innovation.
Four Strategic Pillars

The work of Embuild Plus Gevel- en Dakgroen is built around four key pillars:

  • Representing its members and promoting their interests.
  • Serving as a sector-wide information and knowledge centre for the correct implementation of green roof and facade solutions.
  • Strengthening cooperation between all stakeholders within the sector.
  • Supporting vocational training, education, and promotional activities that help grow the market and improve quality standards.
A Strong Partnership for Belgium

The collaboration between Embuild Plus Gevel- en Dakgroen and the Belgische Federatie Groenblauw Bouwen (BFDG) represents an important opportunity to further strengthen Belgium’s green infrastructure sector. While both organisations share the common goal of increasing the quality, implementation, and visibility of green roofs and living walls, they also contribute complementary expertise in areas such as technical standards, quality assurance, research, professional training, and stakeholder engagement.

The close cooperation between BFDG and Embuild Plus Gevel- en Dakgroen will create valuable synergies that will benefit not only Belgium but also the wider European green building community.

Strengthening the European Network

By joining EFB as an Extraordinary Member, Embuild Plus Gevel- en Dakgroen becomes part of a growing European community dedicated to accelerating the implementation of green roofs, living walls, and other nature-based building solutions.

The EFB looks forward to working closely with both Belgian organisations, supporting collaboration, sharing knowledge, promoting innovation, and advancing high-quality green infrastructure across Europe.

We warmly welcome Embuild Plus Gevel- en Dakgroen to the EFB community and look forward to many successful collaborations in the years ahead.
