IFLA Europe Award 2019 goes to European Federation of Green Roof Associations (EFB)!
It is the aim of IFLA Europe to recognise the work of exceptional people who believe that our way of perceiving and understanding the world – derived from our profession – could contribute to its development. This year we presented our Award to European Federation of Green Roof Associations. The Award was presented to Dusty Gedge, President of EFB at the Jubilee 30th IFLA Europe General Assembly entitled ‘ “Landscape as collective memory”, which took place in Antalya, 8-10 November 2019, Turkey.
The issues of climate change, biodiversity loss, water and energy management, health and community are challenging humanity and addressing these issues is an intrinsic part of the work of landscape architects. We believe that IFLA Europe together with EFB and other counterparts can bring skills that include design, construction and research and add to the body of knowledge required to ensure our efforts to manage our planet are successful. IFLA EUROPE and its members realise fully the importance of the work and share EFB’s vision – liveable – safe – green cities for future generations as well sustainable development and quality standards in urban and rural planning.
The founding green roof associations of Austria, Germany and Switzerland established the European Federation of Green Roof and Wall Associations (EFB) in 1997. Since then the following associations have joined: Netherlands, Belgium, France, Scandinavia, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, Portugal, England, Spain and Serbia. As of 2019 there are 15 member associations in EFB. The Federation and its national members actively promote the use of green roofs and green facades throughout Europe. Such technologies are known to provide better quality of life for towns and cities by returning sealed surfaces back to nature.
